Las Vegas Golf Packages

Las Vegas is far more than just brightly colored, over-the- top casinos and bars. It also

has culture, music, art and some of the most beautifully challenging golf links in the U.S. When

you purchase one of the many Las Vegas golf packages available you get to play these links

while being able to misbehave in one of the most notorious cities in the world. And, just in case,

there are plenty of later tee times for those mornings you just can’t seem to get out of bed after

a late night on the town.

Las Vegas is Spanish for “the meadows”. The name was first used in 1829 by a scout

from a trading party named Raphael Rivera. His party was on its way to Los Angeles and they

stopped while on their way from New Mexico via the Old Spanish Trail. The area used to be

covered in wells that were fed from the Las Vegas Wash that runs to the Colorado River so it

was truly an oasis in the middle of extremely harsh desert. In 1844 President Tyler asked John

C Fremont to lead a group of scouts, spies, and scientists to the Las Vegas area to prepare for

war with Mexico. They set up a fort and the war with Mexico certainly did happen and the

territory officially became part of the U.S. There was even a time the Mormons tried to settle in

the Las Vegas area for the first time, but the stresses of being so new in that area were too

much for them so they went back to Utah. The area remained mainly unoccupied for the next

few years except for a few travelers and traders staying in the clandestine fort. After all that

happened the property got passed around from owner to owner eventually landing into the

scope of Montana Senator William Clark and his railroad endeavors. The area was promoted to

farmers and those farmers then named the county after Senator Clark. Las Vegas as we know it

didn’t start to boom until the thirties when the Hoover Dam was commissioned and the

population soared from about five thousand to twenty five thousand and in 1931 gambling

become legal, though Vegas already had a decently well-known gambling industry. Growth

continued in the area regardless of the many tough times. Las Vegas’ tumultuous history has

given us the modern city we know today.

The Las Vegas area is now home to over fifty golf courses. When purchasing one of

many Las Vegas golf packages available you will have to narrow down where you would really

like to play because if you tried to play all of the courses available you would be there for over

two months. There are many courses available that have been designed by the game’s

celebrities that you just won’t want to miss. From the drastic elevation changes on the South

Shore Golf Club links to the revolutionary links at the Revere at Anthem, Las Vegas provides

Angel Park Golf Club- Las Vegas, Nevada

The Angel Park Golf Club has been dubbed the “world's most complete Las Vegas golf experience.”

The Angel Park Golf Club features two championship caliber courses bearing Arnold Palmer's signature as its designer. On top of that, it also has a short course and a practice greens that are nothing short of the quality that the other two big courses have.

Angel Park Golf Club – Mountain Course
The larger and longer Mountain Course measures 6,772 yards from the longest tees, for a par of 71. It takes golfers to a myriad of adventures in an 18-hole layout, as they play on natural desert terrain. This is complemented by an array of bunkers and water hazards that are authentic Palmer signatures.

Angel Park Golf Club – Palm Course
The Palm Course is shorter by a good 200 yards than the Mountain Course at more than 6,500 yards. But this is not tantamount to it being any less better. Or fun. Or challenging. The Palm Course has all the good features of the Mountain Course, but with a more interesting set of par threes. The par-3 holes of this course are tad longer than the Mountain Course, measuring 200 yards at most. It plays for a par of 70, with a good distance between tees.

Cloud 9
A most interesting addition to the superb courses in the Angel Park, the Cloud 9 is a collection of 12 par-three holes. This lighted short course's holes are a replica of the best par three holes in the world. Amongst its top replica holes are those of The Postage Stamp” from Scotland’s Royal Troon Golf Club, “Valley of Sin” from Georgia’s St. Andrews Country Club and the most famous “Island Green” from TPC Sawgrass in Florida. Golf Range Magazine has recently awarded this course as among the Top Short Courses in America.

Impressive Golf Course Water Conservation Measures

LAS VEGAS, Nevada – OB Sports Golf Management, management group for Angel Park and The Legacy Golf Clubs, recently completed an ambitious turf removal project designed to limit the amount of out-of-play turf on two of its Las Vegas Golf Clubs. Angel Park Golf Club is a 36-hole facility located in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas. Its Mountain Course and Palm Course were both designed by Arnold Palmer. The Legacy Golf Club, a true test of golf at 7,233 yards from the back tees, is conveniently located 10 minutes from McCarran International Airport. The 10th hole may be the most recognizable in Las Vegas with tee boxes in the shape of a spade, club, diamond and heart.

The project, conducted in conjunction with the Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA), removed approximately 70 acres of turf at Angel Park alone, which translates into nearly a 28 percent reduction of turf overall at the 36-hole facility. Angel Park and The Legacy were built in the late 1980’s when water was less of a critical issue, both have always been extremely conscious with efficient irrigation practices. Now with Southern Nevada in a drought, replacing the turf with desert/xeriscape landscaping is the responsible thing to do. Roughly 33 acres of turf was removed from Angel Park’s 18-hole Mountain Course and nearly as much from the 18-hole golf course at The Legacy Golf Club.

The new Southwest Desert look has received rave reviews by the golfers, not only does it look great, but it will conserve a staggering 80 million gallons of water per year. We are impressed with this pro-active measure by Angel Park and Legacy Golf Clubs and encourage more golf clubs to do the same.
